Yes, hello! šŸ™‚ Itā€™s a new year and Iā€™ve changed my calendar. Hooray.

Given that I need to pick a day off, it would seem that this thing Iā€™ve been doing with the paper may have to change. Or not, if I take Saturday off. How Jewish/interesting.

In the meantime, onward.

A-Section

A tree that stood for five centuries. Will it be sold for $17,500? (My first ā€œgift linkā€ of the year.)

China harvests masses of data on Western targets. Donā€™t worry, that canā€™t happen here.

I really should write my memoirs.

Op-Ed

Historically, women donā€™t exist. Yeah. No shit. (And another ā€œgift linkā€.)

Yeah, trying to appease everyone is a losing proposition.

Book World

The importance of volcanoes, on Earth and beyond.

Would I rather read a book about a tuba player or one about a photographer?

Outlook

The only bits that caught my interest were the ones about blockchain, NFTs, and crypto.

Metro

I should or could write a book about the Purple Line project.

Oh, look. Someoneā€™s planning a march that doesnā€™t involve committing treason.

On Saturday, the weather was definitely foggy.

Taken from my window.

Film honors African American women who worked as ā€˜Rosie the Rivetersā€™. (Another ā€œgift linkā€.)

RIP Betty White.

RIP Karen Ferguson, founder of pension watchdog group.

Keep looking up!

Business

Ever think about resigning? šŸ™‚

Sports

Iā€™m counting the days until spring training. šŸ™‚

Arts & Style

Climate change plays out on the big screen TV.

Theater of War gives troops more than a show of sympathy.

AI on lost works draw fans and critics.

Travel ā€œHow I got here, Iā€™m not sure. But if Iā€™m ever going to get out, I will have to get my bearings.ā€

ā€œOn foot, the world will always be vast and varied, because thereā€™s no skimming over the places in between.ā€

ā€œIā€™m an amateur photographer whose concept of travel has changed during the pandemic.ā€

Magazine

Iā€™ve been fascinated by this place for some time now.

Greta Thunberg. ā€œWe cannot compromise with the laws of physics.ā€

I really do need to write my memoirs.

Finally, the Funnies!

Yes, yes, yes. No, no, no.

Ainā€™t that the truth?

I feel your pain, Scott.

PS: I assume itā€™s not too late to share my 2021 Year in Review video and to wish you all a happy new year! šŸ™‚
