This is a story I wrote for a creative nonfiction class I took a while back.

The assignment ended up looking like a science fiction story.

See what you think.

Saving the Experiment
by Debbi Mack

I have come to this place called Earth, because it ended up being kind of a mess. Things did not go as I had hoped with the experiment.

Despite providing the once-barren planet with numerous resources to eventually generate and support life, it never ceased to amaze me how some of the animals (especially the type I came to call the Brainy Monkey) managed to hoard certain types of them. And even though they were smart enough to create all sorts of things, including a world-wide communications network, they couldn’t seem to manage the simple concept of sharing.

There were a few places where the even division of goods and services were part of the political and social structure of that population segment. But, even then, those in power were somehow “more equal” than others.

I came to Earth hoping to set things right.

Because, if this experiment fails, I’ll never pass second grade.

PS: And there you go! 🙂
