My Dystonia Fundraiser — Revisited

To follow up on what I was saying here

My fundraiser took place on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

To my utter amazement, I was able to attract a couple of major sponsors!

A banner from the event!

The day of the event was cloudy and cool, with a bit of drizzle now and then. Not exactly great riding weather.

Nonetheless, we were able to attract volunteers and riders! 🙂

Here are a group of riders and a couple of event staffers! 🙂

We also had the most awesome volunteers!

Here are a few volunteers! (I’m in the background, trying my best to look like I know what I’m doing.)
June and Pat were instrumental to these efforts.
What an awesome group of volunteers! I recognize Sharon in the background! 🙂

Also, I had loads of assistance setting things up from Donna at Old Glory Harley-Davidson in Laurel, MD.

Me and Donna on event day!

And did I mention we had a band?

ROCK N’ ROLL!!

We also had so much food, we ended up donating the leftovers to the local volunteer fire department.

See all those covered containers? They contain food. Lots of it.

We also had a cake donated by Cakes Plus in Laurel, MD.

Someone snagged a bite before I could get the photo! 🙂

The bottom line is that, despite the weather, the light turnout, etc., we still made more than $1,000 that day. That’s net receipts after expenses! All going to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.

There’s the raffle jar!

It was an exhausting, but amazing event. And I’ll never forget it. No matter what happened to the blog that once commemorated the occasion.

Here are some things I wrote to inform people about dystonia and the event.

An article describing dystonia.

A form letter requesting help with public outreach.

Here’s a sample pitch email I developed.

In addition, a PSA request letter. Feel free to use any of these as templates.

I’d forgotten what a nice job we did on the event poster!

It got the job done! 🙂

PS: These things really happened.

This thing and this one both seem too weird to believe.
