Hi. Today I’m reviewing How to Do Nothing: Resisting The Attention Economy by Jenny Odell. The End.

I was tempted to stop there, but no, really, this is a great book. Some of it will not go over well with some people, but what ultimately matters is that this is about paying attention and not getting too wrapped up in things like social media and algorithms and all of that. Basically, it’s about creating community, connecting with other people, getting in touch with your environment, sustainability. All sorts of issues are touched on in this book, and I just think it’s a really, really good book for people to look at and think about. Malcolm Harris, I’m sorry, I’m doing it again. Yes.

Malcolm Harris, author of Kids These Days says, “This book will change how you see the world.” I think that’s to an extent true, very true. There’s a lot in this book that I would’ve agreed with even before I read it. I mean, this author has a lot to say that I understand right away and have always felt. So for me, it was kind of a confirmation of my own feelings. But there are other things in there that I think can really help people to just kind of step away from technology, put down your phone, put down your devices, and really pay attention to your surroundings and what’s going on around you, that kind of thing. So for that reason, I highly recommend the book. That’s it. Thanks, and I’ll talk to you later.

You can buy this from Amazon or Apple.

You can also buy it from Kobo.

You can buy it from Barnes & Noble.

You can also buy it from my online bookstore.

BTW, this didn’t make it into the recorded review, but this isn’t really about how to do absolutely nothing at all. Because then you may as well be dead, right? 🙂

It’s about how to cultivate boredom. Or how to miss out and feel good about it.

PS: I’d forgotten all about this video! 🙂
