My Book Review of ‘Crocodile on the Sandbank’ — Debbi Mack
Hi! Today I’m reviewing Crocodile on the Sandbank and this is by Elizabeth Peters. And I believe she was a Maryland-based writer. I saw her mentioned in one of the Maryland Writers Association newsletters, and just got interested based on the description of her work. So, this is the first one of her books I’ve ever read. And I have to tell you, it’s fun reading. There’s a whole lot of description of Egypt and the culture, which was really cool, but it’s told during Victorian times, so it’s real kind of flowery. And normally I don’t like that, but I loved it in this case. Loved it, loved it. And Amelia Peabody-this an Amelia Peabody mystery-is quite the character. If you’re looking for a strong, flawed female protagonist, here you go.
I mean, seriously, she is not a perfect person. She’s full of opinions. Sometimes she’s possibly wrong. Who knows? I mean, she’s quite convinced of her own rightness, as are we all, aren’t we? Anyway, but she takes it to kind of an extreme and she meets up with a guy who kind of takes things to kind of an extreme and they’re on this mission to explore, you know, they’re on the trip to see various places along the Nile and she’s with a companion.
I won’t go into all the details because just read it. Just read it because it’s fun. And it was one of these books that I just couldn’t even, I got to the point where I just couldn’t put it down. I just had to finish it this weekend. And so I’m so glad I read it. And I’m so glad I learned about this author. And I have to say that it is like Indiana Jones as a woman during Victorian times. But at the same time, it’s also quite obviously a romance novel and I hadn’t even thought about that until after I finished it. So, anyway, if you like romance novels or adventure novels, this is a good one. Really. Yeah. Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters, an Amelia Peabody mystery. That’s it. And I’ll talk to you later.
You can buy the book from Amazon.
Or Apple or Kobo or Barnes & Noble.
