Make Mine Carnitas with Extra Avocado — Hold the Meth

According to my records, this is something I wrote in February 2017. I’m digging up all manner of stuff I’ve written over the many years I’ve been doing this kind of thing.

Let me tell you, I do love me some Mexican food. And I’m not talking about that fast food version you get from Taco Bell.

But 23-year-old Susy Laborin did make a run across the border and returned with totally methed up burritos.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in Nogales, Arizona arrested Ms. Laborin for trying to smuggle methamphetamine into the country by hiding it inside burritos.

Ms. Laborin got caught with the goods while attempting re-entry into the U.S. from Mexico on foot carrying what seemed to be a bag of burritos. A dog caught wind of the scent — and I don’t mean the dog smelled carnitas.

To add insult to injury, the burritos contained no guacamole, carne asada or pico de gallo. She could’ve at least tried hiding the evidence under some decent condiments!

And, if you think that’s dumb, take a guess what Laborin was supposed to be paid to deliver $3,000 worth of meth across international lines? The grand sum of $500.

Just check out the article from the Huffington Post, which gives additional examples of fun ways to smuggle drugs with food.

PS: Even as far back as 2017, $500 is chump change. (Yeah, I just added this part.)
