I climbed Scott Tower in Edinburgh, whilst on drugs. Legal drugs.

This weird bit of early screenwriting is something I wrote while I was on drugs.

What drugs, you might ask? Well, there were drugs for dystonia, drugs for pain, more drugs for pain, and drugs for depression, because I was freaking depressed for many reasons. Not the least of which was that I was working too hard and wearing myself out. Moving without knowing where I was going. Just writing the next book, because … that’s what I do and what I know. Even though I was so full of drugs, I could barely scrape a sentence together.

However, around the beginning of 2012 or end of 2011, once I saw how nothing was going to change my luck with book sales, for whatever reason, but quite likely because I can’t manage to release more than one novel every now and then, these days, I started to take screenwriting more seriously as an option.

There were a few reasons I did this. First, I wanted to write screenplays. I’ve always wanted to. But it was going to the weekend indie producer classes that really woke me up to the possibilities. I’ll get to that later.

Second, one of the authors who was part of my online marketing support group told me that he read my first novel and thought there was “a screenwriter in there screaming to come out.” And he’d worked in the industry. So, that was unexpected.
