How to Make Money Writing Anything

There are lots of ways to make money these days on the Internet. One way that’s often suggested is writing an ebook.

I’m here to tell you there’s nothing to it. Here are the easy steps you can take to become a money-earning author.

Start by picking a niche, like stamp collecting. It helps if you really like the subject, so that when you blog about it, you can do so with passion. Because you will have a blog, right?

At this point, do your research. Delve deeply into your subject by Googling it and checking for facts on Wikipedia. Because all the information you need is online, right?

You might ask, “If the information is online, why would anyone read my book?” This is the part where your passion comes into it. You have to learn to put your heart and soul and personality into your writing. This will come out naturally when you blog.

So … the more you blog, the better you’ll get at writing stuff down. But that’s not all. Consider actually taking up stamp collecting. It might be helpful to actually do the thing you’re passionate about. I’m sure you’ll develop all sorts of tips and suggestions of your own while you’re doing it. Like, for instance, the best places online or off to get collectible stamps. Or maybe the best ways to store your stamps.

So then take all the information plus what you’ve learned from actually doing it, then write about it using sentences with as many words as possible. Describe your hobby in the most minute detail, using the purplest of prose.

It might be a good idea to outline the book ahead of time, so when it comes to writing the thing, it’ll be that much easier. Include as many chapters as you can. You could even have a chapter devoted to the most arcane stamp collecting jargon.

The important thing is to write and keep writing — one word after the other — until you have a bunch of pages. Then format and convert the document and — voila! — you now have the content for a book!

You will, of course, need a cover. Something bold and eye-catching that will look good as a thumbnail. You can find all sorts of public domain or royalty-free images for that. Use canva.com to make your cover. It’s really user-friendly, so I’m sure you can figure it out.

Of course, before you upload your book, you’ll want to come up with a snappy description for the sales page. If you blog enough about your subject, you can even find ways of establishing expertise. I’ll go more into the easy ways to become an expert these days in another post.

So after you’ve written a snappy description and researched the categories that would be appropriate for your book — so it’ll do well SEO-wise — just upload the little bugger and charge $9.99 (the absolute max you can get away with and still qualify for the 70 percent royalty rate).

In fact, if you get really good at writing at length about your topic, you could make your first book part of a series. For example, Stamp Collecting for Beginners followed by books for more advanced stamp collectors. Under those circumstances, you could make your first book free, followed by cheap inexpensive sequels. The most important thing is to start now and keep going.

Remember: just write the crap down and publish it. Easy as that!
