Book Review of ‘Essentialism’ by Greg McKeown — The Wayward Lawyer

Today, I’m reviewing Essentialism by Greg McKeown.

This is a really excellent book. It really does help. It did help me kind of think more about what is most important to me in my life. I should explain, I suppose. The title is Essentialism and the subtitle is The Disciplined Pursuit of Less.

It isn’t even so much about pursuing fewer things, although I think that is part of essentialism, possibly. What I’m trying to say is you’re trying to pursue fewer goals in the hope that by focusing on the most important ones, you do a better job at them. So I think that this is a really good book for anybody and everybody to read, because these days there’s so much emphasis on working hard, doing everything, the whole “DIY, everything has to be done by you, hands-on” culture.

We can’t all do everything spectacularly. And in order to do a really good job at something, I think it is important at some point to focus your attentions on the most important things. The most important skills that you have and the things you most want to do. That’s really what this book is about. It essentially reaffirmed what I already thought, but at the same time gave some very specific suggestions about how to really embrace essentialism and pursue a life of more focus and a less scattershot approach.

This is something that I think can really help a person force themselves to decide what their true goals and true missions in their life are. So as a self-help book, I have to say this really succeeds, and I’m glad that I read it. So I’ll include affiliate links and non-affiliate links below to where you can buy this.
