A Health-First Approach to Indie Authorship
Hi, I’m going to talk a little more about my indie author journey. Before I go on too much about things like Amazon or ebooks or anything else, I just want to talk about health, because health is extremely important in whatever you’re doing. And these days I see so many articles about how stressed out we are, that there is a crying need for people to think about their health right now. And there has been for some time, I think.
Doing more is not necessarily doing better, doing more of the right thing is doing better. And I will only say that because I was so worn out, taking drugs for depression, dealing with dystonia, and then to see a drop in my income to 10% of what it had been basically, my gross income. I was making nearly $60,000 gross in 2011. I made a little over 6,000 in 2012 and lost money. Not much, but I lost. There was a loss definitely. The next year, I made more and did manage to actually make a profit, but a small one. One I certainly couldn’t live off of. In 2014, things took a turn way for the worst. I was losing money and I kept losing money and I’ve been losing money ever since 2014. So obviously something had to change. Now, one of the changes that I’ve made is to focus on things that I really feel passionate about and that hasn’t always been financially remunerative.
Doing more is not necessarily doing better, doing more of the right thing is doing better.
However, there is a long-term goal I have in mind with my writing that I won’t get into just yet. If I do. I’m not sure how much I really want to talk about that. I want to talk more about selling books and being an indie author, but I will say this, I have been finding ways to save money and I hope to share those with you too, because frankly, even though I’m not making very much gross income, I’m losing a whole lot less now, even if I am in the red. So that’s a good sign.
I just want to make the point that health comes first and that means taking care of yourself.
But, no matter what, I just want to make the point that health comes first and that means taking care of yourself. I just got back from an acupuncture appointment and I’m so glad that I started those. Let me tell you, I think it helped me turn around really. Anyway, on that note, that’s all I’ll say for now. And thanks for watching. Thanks for your comments. And I’m also going to say this video is going up on a publication on Substack that I didn’t even market. And suddenly I had a number of people opening the email or opening the link to it or something. Anyway, I think they’re subscribers. I’m not sure I have to check again. I’m a moron. I don’t know what I’m talking about. Hang on! 🙂
Okay. As it turns out, I have over 3,000 email recipients of what I wrote. There were 3,000 people who read the email that I didn’t even know I sent. Anyway, the point being that 3,000 people, a certain percentage of those people opened and read what I had to say. And I was amazed, shocked, really. It’s like, I never even told anybody about this and people are responding? Wow. So thank you for that. Thank you for your responses and your interest. And I’ll try to keep the content relevant and hopefully helpful. And also I want to get into some of the alternatives I’m thinking about to help boost my income. So I’m going to be talking about those as well, money saving and income boosting, that kind of thing. That’s it. I’ll talk to you later.
