A Book Review of ‘Influence’ | The Mindful Writer

Today, I’m posting a book review of a non-fiction title that I found reasonably good and worth a read. It’s a review of Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini, Ph.D.

Well, okay. There’s a lot in here. I got this book out of the library primarily because somebody who is an online entrepreneur recommended it. And I think it does help to look at books like this to get an idea of what works and what doesn’t and it can help you. And I found this one only somewhat helpful. I mean, I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it or anything. If I were to get it, I would get it out of the library. But there was a lot of that I blew through, because, frankly, some of the discussion and psychological studies began to get a little repetitive.

However, the bottom line parts of the chapters were what I liked. How to say no. Those are the parts that I thought really were helpful. You really have to, especially now these days online, you have to check your impulses, because people come up with these headlines and stuff that get your attention. And before you know it, you’ve got all this information that is screaming for your attention that really probably does not merit it. Many times. But it does give you some insight into our instinctive impulses toward purchasing things, toward looking at things, toward believing in certain things. And for that reason alone, I would recommend at least giving it a look. Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion. Robert B. Cialdini. (Pronounced Chal-dini. I hope.)
